Anti-Cancer Vegetables


The anti-cancer ability of vegetables have always been the focus of scientific research. in 1995, scientists from the United States discovered that people who eat plenty of broccoli have a lower risk to get colon cancer and lung cancer. Researchers from the United Kingdom also confirmed the anti-cancer capability of broccoli. Recently, Japanese scientists did a study on 260,000 people of daily diet habits. They found that vegetables indeed can play an important role regarding the anti-cancer effects. They created a list of 20 vegetable species which has obvious inhibition effects on tumor cells. These vegetables include cooked sweet potato, sweet potato, asparagus, cauliflower, cabbage, celery, eggplant skin, capsicum, carrot, capsella Bursa-pastoris, tomato, onion, garlic, cucumber and cabbage.


Nutritionists have already considered vegetables as an important source of vitamins and minerals for the human body. However, but in recent years, some chemicals existing in vegetables can inhibit the growth of cancer cells. For different vegetables, their capability to fight cancer usually varies. For example, sweet potatoes can effectively prevent colon cancer and breast cancer. Scientists found that the sweet potatoes contain a chemical called hydrogen dehydroepiandrosterone which can be used to prevent colon cancer and breast cancer.

Tomatoes can help prevent prostate cancer and breast cancer. Researchers pointed out that lycopene in tomatoes has the anti-cancer abilities and can activate lymphocytes to kill cancel cells. Studies also shown that a moderate intake of lycopene may reduce the risk of prostate cancer, breast cancer, gastric cancer, lung cancer an so on.

Cruciferous vegetables are capable of preventing stomach cancer. Cauliflower, broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables that contain glucosinolate grape glucoside compounds can induce the body to generate a detoxification enzyme. Regular consumption of these vegetables can lower the risk of getting cancer, lung cancer and esophageal cancer. In addition, the garlic is helpful to prevent colon cancer and carrots can reduce the chance of lung cancer.

Although different vegetables have different abilities to fight against cancer, it is very important to maintain a nutritious and balanced diet in our daily life. We should eat a variety of vegetables every day, and they can help us to build up our defense against cancer.
