Benefits of Papaya Seeds


Originated from Mexico, papaya fruits are many people’s favorite fruits. Moreover, their seeds can also bring great benefits for human health and its extract is often used for treatment of various diseases by some herbalists. Its anticancer and antibacterial properties make it an important part of many herbal remedies. Apart from that, papaya seeds also have the ability to relieve the symptoms of arthritis and other related diseases. Papaya seeds are total edible. However its spicy taste could make you feel uncomfortable.


Many people have successfully planted papaya trees using some slightly dried seeds in some warm and moderate humid environment. As a typical tropical plant species, papaya trees will be seriously damaged under freezing weather. So, potted papaya should be moved to indoor environment when the temperature is low. Papaya fruits are many people’s favorite fruits and most people just eat the fruit or drink its juice for nutrition purposes. In addition, grounded papaya seed powder was also added to some people’s daily diet like in bread or dessert. Many herbalists suggest a high concentration of the seeds for the maximum benefits, and some commercial papaya seed extract are made from thousands of dried seeds.

The medicinal properties of the papaya seed have already been tested by many experiments. A nutritional study on 2008 found that papaya seeds have some antibacterial effects on human body. The experiments also found that papaya leaf extract has the ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Although more proofs are needed to confirm the benefits of papaya seeds, people have used them as a herbal remedy for hundreds of years to deal with a variety of disorders.
