Dragon Fruit Skin


Dragon fruit is a delicious tropical fruit which can bring great taste for your family. However, there are few people knowing that the skin of the dragon fruits is also a treasure for our health. Actually, it is advised by the nutritionists to preserve the skin for their nutrients.


The substances contain in their skin is a type of valuable nutrient – anthocyanins. This substance is a powerful antioxidant which is 10 times better than beta-carotene and they can kept active for up to 75 hours in the blood. It is able to protect the body from the damages by harmful free radicals which are considered to be the cause of many diseases such as cancer etc. Anthocyanins can also improve the arterial elasticity and protect the lining of the artery. As a result, they are very helpful to lower the blood pressure. Moreover, they are capable of enhancing the smoothness of the skin and inhibiting inflammation and allergies for some sensitive skin types. For senior people, they can help to improve the joint flexibility and provide arthritis prevention from accidental injuries. Apart from the that, anthocyanins can bring other benefits for human body such as facilitating the regeneration of rhodopsin in retina cells and having anti-radiation effects for people sitting in front of computer all day. In a word, anthocyanins can help maintain the health of human body and bring multiple benefits for us.

So, it is recommended to keep the inner pink skin when eating dragon fruits. Since anthocyanins is sensitive to the variation of temperature, so taking the raw fruit is a better choice. You can cut the raw fruits using a knife int thin strips or put them into salad. Drinking fresh juice is another good option.
