Fruit Colors and Nutrition


You may take a variety of color vegetables each day in your diet. Generally, some certain colors usually stand for some specific types of nutrients contained in these vegetables. This is mainly because of the natural pigments included in the plant. These natural chemicals are also widely used for disease prevention as well.


Orange vegetables such as carrots contain a large amount of beta carotene. Fruits with orange colors such as mango and cantaloupe orange also contain this type of nutrient. In addition, beta carotene can also be found in papaya, yams and a number of green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale. It is an important nutrient to prevent a variety of diseases and fight against the natural aging process. Therefore, regular consumption of carrots can bring great benefits for vision health and can slow down the aging effect.

Pink colored fruits and vegetables such as grapefruit, watermelons and Tomatoes contain a large amount of lycopene which is a special chemical with strong antioxidant properties. This antioxidant is often used as dietary supplements to prevent cancer and heart diseases.

Yellow fruits like peaches and pineapples also contain lots of β-carotene which is helpful to prevent heart diseases. More yellow colored fruits and vegetables such as apricots, golden beets, yellow grapefruit, yellow passion fruit, persimmon, squash, kumquats and nectarines can also be considered into your daily diet.

Most green leafy vegetables including cabbage, Chinese cabbage, broccoli contain adequate indole compounds which can help to detox and promote hormone balance and nourish the cells. In addition, the effect of indole compounds can effectively lower the risk of breast cancer.

One of the most important purple fruit is the blueberries which have a strong anti-oxidant property to maintain our health. Most of them contain a large amount of anthocyanins which can enable the plant to generate a powerful antioxidant to destroy harmful free radicals in the body. Therefore, regular consumption of fruits and vegetables containing such compounds can prevent most severe diseases like heart diseases and cancer.
