Health Benefits of Jackfruit
As other tropical fruits such as durians and bananas, jackfruit is a tasty fruit which are rich in energy, dietary fiber, minerals and vitamins. Its benefits for human health has already be recognized by nutritionists. It usually contains no saturated fat and cholesterol, and is considered as one of the most delicious healthy fruits in the world. Like durian, jackfruit’s skin also has blunt thorn-like protuberances which will become soft on maturity. The interior of this fruit is composed of edible yellow flesh embedded with smooth seeds. During the ripening season, each tree can bear up to 250 big fruits. So the jackfruit tree is also considered as the largest flowering fruit trees in the world. The weight of each fruit range from 5 to 60 kg and all of them has an oval shape with 25 to 75 cm in diameter. The color of immature fruits is green, and it will turn brown when the fruit is fully ripened and a special scent of fruit will be sent off as well.
Each jackfruit is able to provide 95 calories per 100 grams and it is mainly composed of soft and digestible fruit flesh. It contains nutrients which can provide adequate energy such as fructose and sucrose. So your body will quickly get recovered after taking one jackfruit when hungry. In addition, jackfruit is rich in dietary fiber and has a natural laxative effect. The fiber contained in its flesh has a protective effect on colon mucosa by combining the colon carcinogen which may cause cancer. The fresh fruit also contains a small amount of vitamin a, β-carotene, lutein and beta-flavonoid pigments such as zeaxanthin. These compounds are perfect antioxidants and are good for maintaining functionality of eyes. Vitamin a is capable of keeping the mucous membranes and skin health. It has been confirmed that fruits rich in vitamin a and beta carotene can effectively lower the risk of lung disease and oral cancer.
In addition, the jackfruit is a rich source of antioxidant vitamin c and each fruit of average size can provide 13.7mg which is equivalent to 23% of the daily recommended intake of vitamin c. Eating fruit with abundant vitamin c can help the body fight against the bacteria better and be capable of removing harmful free radicals as well. Also, jackfruit is one of the fruits containing a small amount of b complex vitamins including vitamin B6, niacin, riboflavin and folic acid. In addition, it is a good source of a bunch of minerals like potassium, magnesium, manganese, and iron.
