Remove Pesticide Residue In Vegetables And Fruits


Fresh organic vegetables and fruits are always recommended by nutritionists although they are more expensive than common ones. The biggest benefit we can get from organic foods is that most of them are totally free from pesticides and fertilizer etc. If you cannot buy organic products in your local stores, you still need to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables because the health benefits brought by these vegetables will overcome the risk of exposure to pesticides. United States Environmental Protection Agency already lists some of the most vulnerable agricultural products which are easily to get more pollution from pesticide including apples, celery, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, lettuce, spinach and kale. So, you should pay some extra attention before eating these vegetables and try to wash them thoroughly to get rid of most toxins.


Before eating the above listed vegetables and fruits, you should wash them in flowing water for at least 30 seconds which can help rinse off part of the toxin. Then you can scrub the surface with a brush. Do not use commercial soap or detergent. In addition, if you can see the word “washed” marked on the product wrapper, you can save some washing time. For some type of vegetables like lettuce or cabbage, you should get rid of the outer leaves as most pesticides are sprayed on outer leaves than the inner layers. You should wash your hands using soap and water before handling any products to avoid extra pollution. In addition, you should also follow security operations to avoid cross-contamination in the kitchen.
