The Health Benefits Of Spice On Diabetes
For thousands of years, because of spice’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect, they are loved by people all around the world. a recently published journal in food industry found spices having a great prevention effect on diabetes. The authors of this article come from the clinical nutrition center in Singapore and they have done a varieties of experiments to support their conclusion. These researchers found that the polyphenol content in more than 80 kinds of spices can inhibit the saccharification process and thus can control the blood sugar level in the human body.
Researchers found that spices may affect glucose metabolism using several ways. They include influencing the glucose absorption in the gut, stimulating the secretion of islet B cells in the islet, adjusting the release of liver glycogen, activating the insulin receptor, improving insulin sensitivity, and adjusting the output of glucose in the liver, etc.
In addition, spices can also prevent the postprandial blood sugar rising rapidly, but the activity of biological composition of spices is very complicated and many of them are still unknown. Researchers found that the following spices have the greatest prevention effects on diabetes: cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, fennel, coriander, black pepper, garlic, onion and curry powder. In addition, because of the different types of polyphenols included in spices and its range is very wide, the mechanism of polyphenol preventing diabetes will not be considered as the same. Currently, a lot of mechanisms are still unknown to us. Since may people in Southeast Asia are suffering from diabetes and the Singapore government has officially declared war on diabetes. Since most scientific studies are still based on cell research and animal models, we need more human clinical studies to strengthen the conclusion.
